Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.82%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Pearson PLC (L:PSON), which rose 17.41% or 114.50 points to trade at 772.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) added 15.52% or 11.0500 points to end at 82.2500 and Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) was up 12.19% or 26.95 points to 248.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Compass Group PLC (L:CPG), which fell 4.06% or 46.00 points to trade at 1088.00 at the close. SSE PLC (L:SSE) declined 2.89% or 40.00 points to end at 1345.00 and BAE Systems PLC (L:BAES) was down 2.20% or 10.800 points to 479.200.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1388 to 812 and 378 ended unchanged.
Shares in SSE PLC (L:SSE) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.89% or 40.00 to 1345.00.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.89% or 9.80 to $1096.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 5.57% or 1.58 to hit $29.93 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 5.97% or 1.67 to trade at $29.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.22% to 1.4222, while EUR/GBP fell 0.65% to 0.7624.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 99.33.
