JAKARTA, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Indonesia's coal production from January to August reached 263 million tonnes, down 15.4 percent from the 311 million tonnes produced in the same period last year, a mining ministry official said on Tuesday.
The world's top thermal coal exporter also shipped less of the power station fuel from January to August, with exports of 211 million tonnes, down 18.2 percent from the 258 million tonnes shipped a year earlier, Coal Director Adhi Wibowo told Reuters via text message.
Production declined "due to declining coal prices and lower market demand," said Wibowo, adding that the government's coal production target of 425 million tonnes this year would be difficult to reach.
