Investing.com – Netherlands equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Telecoms and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX added 0.09% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Gemalto (AS:GTO), which rose 4.74% or 2.47 points to trade at 54.54 at the close. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) added 1.26% or 1.050 points to end at 84.110 and Relx NV (AS:RELN) was up 1.00% or 0.175 points to 17.685 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which lost 1.06% or 0.082 points to trade at 7.652 in late trade. ASML Holding (AS:ASML) declined 0.93% or 1.15 points to end at 122.80 and SBM Offshore (AS:SBMO) shed 0.59% or 0.10 points to 15.95.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 75 to 47 and 11 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 8.38% to 16.79 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was up 1.19% or 0.62 to $52.86 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.94% or 0.52 to hit $55.76 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 0.85 to trade at $1256.45 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.10% to 1.0602, while EUR/GBP fell 0.33% to 0.8537.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 100.91.
