SYDNEY, Dec 8 (Reuters) - The current El Nino is near its peak intensity, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology said on Tuesday, and the weather event is showing some signs of easing.
Sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean remain near record levels, the bureau said, indicating that the 2015 El Nino will be the one of the three strongest events in the last 50 years.
Climate indicators, however, are showing signs of easing - the bureau said, although the threshold for an El Nino are likely to remain breached until the first quarter of the 2016.
