SYDNEY, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS), operator of Australia's Newcastle port, said on Friday it has temporarily suspended operations following a fire incident.
A fire broke out on a conveyor system at PWCS' Kooragang Terminal, it said in a statement on its website. The conveyor system was not operating at the time.
"Kooragang Terminal operations have been suspended as the incident is investigated," it said, adding no one was injured during the incident.
Newcastle port is the world's largest coal export terminal. PWCS owns and manages the Kooragang and Carrington Coal Terminals with a combined capacity of 145 million tonnes per year.
