The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 5.94% or 168.00 points to trade at 2995.00 at the close. GKN PLC (LON:GKN) added 2.28% or 6.30 points to end at 282.50 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 2.18% or 11.400 points to 533.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included National Grid PLC (LON:NG), which lost 4.57% or 45.90 points to trade at 959.60 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 2.65% or 9.70 points to end at 356.60 and SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) shed 1.21% or 11.50 points to 939.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1150 to 919 and 467 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $1214.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.35% or 0.17 to hit $49.18 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.32 to trade at $50.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.4421, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.7734.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 95.51.
