Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.50%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG), which rose 5.50% or 0.39 points to trade at 7.48 at the close. Meanwhile, Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) added 5.28% or 0.20 points to end at 3.99 and Primero Mining Corp (TO:P) was up 5.17% or 0.170 points to 3.460 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU), which fell 12.00% or 0.75 points to trade at 5.50 at the close. Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TO:KEL) declined 10.35% or 0.44 points to end at 3.81 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was down 9.32% or 0.49 points to 4.77.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 851 to 495 and 156 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.82% to 21.78.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.37% or 14.80 to $1093.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 5.57% or 2.00 to hit $33.97 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 5.90% or 2.15 to trade at $34.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.63% to 0.7101, while CAD/EUR fell 0.96% to 0.6584.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 99.29.
