Hi James Currently there is negative correlation between ASX Vix and ASX200 so when there is negative correlation they more in opposite direction.

VIX isnt necessarily negatively correlated, its a sentiment index of the forward looking volatility in the options that make up the ASX200. Can be up (volatile comings) or low (confidence/security).

Can anyone explain why the ASX200 is 2.5% but the ASX 200 VIX is down 41% ? Is it a bug ?

Hello VIX is for volatility, and downside move is more important than upside move. So when the price moves upwards, volatility is low and moves downward, volatility is high.. Hope this explains it.
