Investment Strategy

The managers believe that the best value in the Australian share market is found in smaller, less researched stocks. Consequently, they focus on listed companies outside the ASX 150. The fund invests in cash generative businesses that they can understand and can value.

Name Title Since Until
Steven Ng - 2012 Now
Biography "Steven has over 24 years’ experience in portfolio management. Prior to co-founding Ophir, Steven worked alongside Andrew Mitchell as a Portfolio Manager at Paradice Investment Management from 2009 to late 2011. His portfolio management experience also includes successful periods at Credit Suisse Asset Management (2007-2009), ING Investment Management (2004-2007) and Macquarie Asset Management (2002-2004). Prior to joining the funds management industry Steven worked as a management consultant at Bain International. Steven’s depth of experience in portfolio management roles spans a number of investment and economic cycles and brings a considerable knowledge base to the team from the insights gained through varied economic backdrops. In addition to his experience in portfolio management, Steven’s management consultancy background also provides the team with a unique ability to look at companies from a slightly different angle. This helps particularly in the deeper understanding of areas such as supply chain analysis, competitor and industry analysis, capital allocation and M&A outcomes."
Andrew Mitchell - 2012 Now
Biography "Andrew has over 20 years’ experience in financial markets, covering portfolio management, investment research and economic analysis. Prior to co-founding Ophir with Steven Ng, Andrew worked from 2007 to 2011 as a Portfolio Manager at Paradice Investment Management on a fund concentrating outside the ASX 150. This fund outperformed the Small Ordinaries benchmark by approximately 20% p.a. over the 4 years to June 30 2011, ranking it the best performer of 160 long-only Australian equity funds covered by the Mercer Survey. Prior to joining Paradice, Andrew worked at CommSec Institutional Equities as a Small Caps Analyst and Economist from 2005-2007. From 2002-2005, Andrew worked as a Policy Analyst at the Commonwealth Department of the Treasury with the principal role of updating the Federal Treasurer on economic developments within the Asian region. In addition to Andrew’s extensive experience in portfolio management and investment analysis, the Fund also draws heavily on his macroeconomic background from his time spent at Federal Treasury. While the investment process employed by Ophir is fundamentally bottom-up, there is also an obvious need to understand the investment thesis for a portfolio position in the context of the broader macro and geopolitical environment, of which Andrew has an extensive working knowledge and contact base."
