Investment Strategy

The Fund provides exposure to an actively managed portfolio of Asian equities though securities listed, or expected to be listed, on Asian exchanges (excluding Japan) by investing in the Macquarie Asia New Stars Fund, a sub–fund of Macquarie Unit Trust Series (Underlying Fund). The Fund may also provide exposure to equities which derive or are expected to derive a significant portion of their revenue from Asia (excluding Japan), listed on exchanges in the US and the UK, derivatives (including options, futures, warrants and forwards) and cash.

Biography John Bugg is Co-Head, Division Director and Head of Research of the Asian Listed Equities team. As Head of Research, John's role includes supervision, development and feedback on the research process and auditing the model prior to releasing it to the investment committee.John has 20 years of industry experience. John joined Macquarie in 1996 as a Resources Analyst. In 1999, he was promoted to Senior Industrial Analyst and Portfolio Manager. Prior to this, John was with BHP as a mining engineer for two years and with the New South Wales Department of Energy as a policy analyst for one year. Between 2003 and 2005, John was with RCM Global Investors, where he worked as a Senior Research Analyst covering the Media, Telecommunications, Tourism and Leisure, Infrastructure, and Utilities sectors in Australian equities. He re-joined Macquarie in 2005 as a Portfolio Manager for the Australian Small Companies Strategy. Under John's management that fund delivery some of the strongest returns in the Australian equities market and was awarded the Morning Star Australian Small Companies Fund of the Year in both 2006 and 2007. John transferred to Hong Kong in early 2008 and is co-founder of the Asian Listed Equities business. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) degree, an MBA, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments. John is also a Responsible Officer and Director of Macquarie Funds Management Hong Kong Limited. John holds an MBA and is a CFA charter holder.

Biography Sam Le Cornu is Co-Head, Division Director and Head of Investments of the Asian Listed Equities team. As Head of Investments, Sam's role includes supervision and development of the investment process and methodology and overseeing the investments as the portfolio gatekeeper. Sam also mentors the Portfolio Managers whilst reviewing portfolio risk management for all the Asian Listed Equities strategies. Sam is co-founder of the Asian Listed Equities business. Prior to joining Macquarie in February 2008, Sam worked with Paradice Investments, one of Australia's largest privately owned asset managers, from March 2005 to November 2007 where he held the position of Portfolio Manager. Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager, Analyst, and Partner at MMC Asset Management from 2000 to 2005. Sam holds a Bachelor of International Business Degree, a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments, and he is an affiliate with the Securities Institute of Australia.
