The rise and rise of crude oil futures could have some unintended consequences, namely increasing wheat prices. Here is how. To produce more ethanol which becomes more profitable with rising oil prices, you need to set aside more of wheat fields to grow corn. Low oil prices meant more of corn fields set for animal stock hence ample pork supply. So watch out crude oil prices to gauge its effect on wheat and live animal prices along with Chinese forced to buy the US agricultural products to balance its trade surplus.
