Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 0.69%, while the SBF 120 index fell 0.65%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Legrand SA (PA:LEGD), which rose 3.79% or 1.87 points to trade at 51.22 at the close. Safran SA (PA:SAF) added 2.02% or 1.23 points to end at 62.03 and Kering SA (PA:PRTP) was up 1.38% or 2.35 points to 172.25 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Societe Generale (PA:SOGN), which lost 3.67% or 1.12 points to trade at 29.43 in late trade. Technip (PA:TECF) declined 3.24% or 1.62 points to end at 48.30 and Air Liquide SA (PA:AIRP) shed 2.42% or 2.31 points to 93.08.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Amundi SA (PA:AMUN) which rose 7.42% to 41.99, Legrand SA (PA:LEGD) which was up 3.79% to settle at 51.22 and Safran SA (PA:SAF) which gained 2.02% to close at 62.03.

The worst performers were CGG SA (PA:GEPH) which was down 6.22% to 20.0500 in late trade, Casino Guichard (PA:CASP) which lost 5.24% to settle at 45.91 and Eutelsat Communications (PA:ETL) which was down 4.78% to 16.93 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 349 to 312 and 114 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 2.14% to 19.30.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.11% or 1.55 to $1359.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.80% or 1.58 to hit $40.02 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.49% or 1.52 to trade at $42.01 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.04% to 1.1170, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8460.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.64.
