Investment Strategy

The investment seeks to provide as high a level of current income as is consistent with the preservation of capital; capital appreciation is a secondary goal. Under normal circumstances, the fund invests at least 80% of its assets in bonds. Bonds include mortgage-related securities, asset-backed securities, government securities, and corporate debt securities. The fund may also invest up to 20% of its total assets in foreign-issued debt securities denominated in either the U.S. dollar or a foreign currency.

Before joining Stone Harbor, Mr. Lavan was a managing director and senior portfolio manager responsible for U.S. governments, mortgages, and asset-backed securities at Citigroup Asset Management. Previously, Mr. Lavan served as an investment policy committee member at Salomon Brothers Asset Management and as a research analyst for institutional investment grade fixed income for Salomon Brothers Inc. Mr. Lavan earned a B.S. in management from State University of New York at Geneseo and an M.B.A from Fordham University. He is a CFA® (Chartered Financial Analyst®) charterholder. He began his career in the investment industry in 1985.
