The US election has changed the game for the better. Deregulation, cutting taxes, and an infrastructure investment program all herald a pro-growth scenario. Forward-looking measures of economic growth are trending upward after a couple years of so-so readings. Volatility is low. The rise in bond yields is positive, signaling the end of deflation and higher returns to capital. There are still so worrisome spots around the globe and Asia is one of those highlights.
Political chaos, subzero interest rates and smartphone explosions may have rocked Asian equities in the last 12 months, but most markets in Asia are still in the black. Analysts predict growth in regional equity markets this year even with the same macroeconomic uncertainty stirring in the background.
In this webinar, we will take a close look at China, Japan, Korea, Australia and India and try to predict what we can expect over the next few months and the balance of 2017. The Asia-Pacific region continues to both deliver and promise steady economic growth. For 2016 as a whole we see real GDP growth overall at around 4.75%, down only fractionally on the previous year. We expect a similar steady rate of growth in 2017. Against this constructive backdrop, the long downtrend in inflation and in official interest rates is coming to an end across much of globe.
