Investment Strategy

The Fund seeks to maximise total return in a manner consistent with the principles of environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) investing. The Fund invests at least 70% of its total assets in the equity securities of companies domiciled in, or exercising the predominant part of their economic activity in Europe excluding the UK. The Fund normally invests in securities that, in the opinion of the Investment Adviser, exhibit either growth or value investment characteristics, placing an emphasis as the market outlook warrants.

Ms. Gaskell's service with the firm dates back to 1994, including her years with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM), which merged with BlackRock in 2006. At MLIM, she was responsible for managing Europe ex UK and Eurozone equity portfolios. Ms. Gaskell began her career with MLIM, and has managed European equity portfolios for institutional and retail clients since 1999. Ms. Gaskell earned a BA degree in politics and philosophy from Oxford University in 1994.

Biography James Macmillan is managing director of BlackRock, Inc. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2006, he was a managing director of MLIM from 2000 to 2006. He joined MLIM in August 1993 and has managed retail and institutional portfolios. James is responsible for the investment performance of the European Equity Team and for supervising the investment process. He has direct responsibility for a number of European portfolios and is Investment Officer for Value Products. James graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge in England in 1987.

Biography Niall Gallagher, Investment Director, is responsible for the management of European Equity funds. Prior to joining GAM Investments in November 2009, he worked as a portfolio manager managing Continental and pan-European equities at T. Rowe Price for two years. Before that, he was at BlackRock for nine years managing both Continental and pan-European equity strategies. He began his career as an economist at the Bank of England. Niall holds a BA in Economics from Manchester Metropolitan University, an MSc in Economics and Finance from Warwick University, and is a CFA charterholder. He is based in London.
