Investment Strategy

The Fund aims to provide a return, from a combination of capital growth and income over the long term. To outperform the MSCI Zhong Hua 10/40 Index by 2.5% per annum, before the deduction of charges, over any 5 year period. The Fund invests at least 80% of its assets in a concentrated portfolio of shares (equities) and derivatives (complex financial instruments) of companies, of any size, in any industry, in China or Hong Kong. Companies will have their registered office in or do most of their business (directly or through subsidiaries) in this region. The Fund may invest up to 50% of its assets in China A Shares.

Prior to joining the firm, earlier in 2020, she was a fund manager at Hang Seng Qianhai Fund Management in Shenzhen, China from 2017. She worked in Hong Kong at Hamon Asset Management as a fund manager from 2014. Before Hamon, she was a fund manager at Legg Mason Asset Management from 2011. She was a senior analyst with Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management from 2009 and was an associate at AIG Direct Investment in Hong Kong from 2007. She started in the industry as an equity research analyst in 2005 with Lehman Brothers. Lin received her BA degree in English for economics and trade from Jilin University in China and a master’s in commerce with merit in finance and accounting from the University of Sydney. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Biography Charlie Awdry is an Investment Manager for the Chinese Equities strategy at Janus Henderson Investors. Charlie started his investment career with Gartmore in 2001 and joined Henderson as part of the firm’s acquisition of Gartmore in 2011. After working in Hong Kong from 2005 to 2006, he returned to London and became the China fund manager at Gartmore in 2006. Charlie graduated with a bachelor’s degree with first class honours in geography from the University of Bristol. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He has more than a decade of experience as lead manager of China equities portfolios.

Biography Philip Ehrmann is a senior managing director and senior portfolio manager for Manulife Investment Management. Philip started his career focusing on North American equities before moving to Invesco as a portfolio manager. Subsequently, he moved to Gartmore to become head of global emerging markets, rebuilding the team and turning around performance before adding the Pacific equity business to his responsibilities, as head of Pacific and Emerging Markets. He was most recently at Jupiter Asset Management as co-head of Asian equities and fund management director of the Jupiter China Fund.
