Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dominion Diamond Corp (TO:DDC), which rose 12.23% or 1.44 points to trade at 13.21 at the close. Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) added 6.24% or 0.64 points to end at 10.89 and Onex Corp (TO:ONEX) was up 4.59% or 4.33 points to 98.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG), which lost 7.78% or 0.57 points to trade at 6.76 in late trade. Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL) declined 7.62% or 0.760 points to end at 9.220 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO:SSL) shed 6.10% or 0.360 points to 5.540.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 679 to 460 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.56% to 11.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.12% or 1.50 to $1228.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $48.73 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $51.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.7497, while CAD/EUR rose 0.11% to 0.6983.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 100.16.
