MELBOURNE, March 18 (Reuters) - Papua New Guinea's Ok Tedi Mining Ltd will suspend copper mining for two weeks from Friday, the company said, because of a steep rise in coronavirus infections in the South Pacific nation.
"In light of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases at the mine site and in Papua New Guinea, OTML will temporarily suspend operations for 14 days," Ok Tedi Acting Managing Director Kedi Ilimbit said in a statement.
The halt was intended to stop further transmission of the virus within mining operations, it added.
