Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602), which rose 5.04% or 190.0 points to trade at 3960.0 at the close. Nippon Light Metal Holdings Co. (T:5703) added 4.21% or 12.0 points to end at 297.0 and Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (T:9062) was up 3.37% or 23.0 points to 706.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 5.99% or 17.1 points to trade at 268.3 in late trade. Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) declined 2.50% or 2.0 points to end at 78.0 and Sekisui House, Ltd. (T:1928) shed 2.38% or 46.5 points to 1908.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1608 to 1552 and 291 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.09% to 12.23 a new 5-year low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.27% or 0.13 to $48.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.29% or 0.15 to hit $50.82 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 1.02% or 12.72 to trade at $1262.12 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 111.22, while EUR/JPY fell 0.05% to 130.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 93.36.
