Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Consumer Goods and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.10%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.12%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.03% or 7.09 points to trade at 182.87 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 1.29% or 1.43 points to end at 112.20 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was up 0.94% or 0.48 points to 51.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 1.66% or 2.44 points to trade at 144.56 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.41% or 0.42 points to end at 29.41 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 0.84% or 3.23 points to 380.58.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which rose 7.01% to 336.00, SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG) which was up 4.40% to settle at 308.77 and Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc (NYSE:HII) which gained 4.24% to close at 240.68.
The worst performers were PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) which was down 4.93% to 74.66 in late trade, Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) which lost 3.76% to settle at 127.07 and Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which was down 3.39% to 135.04 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Shuttle Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SHPH) which rose 65.07% to 2.41, Yunhong CTI Ltd (NASDAQ:CTIB) which was up 46.69% to settle at 0.56 and Anavex Life Sciences Corp (NASDAQ:AVXL) which gained 35.85% to close at 12.05.
The worst performers were Theratechnologies Inc (NASDAQ:THTX) which was down 36.02% to 1.35 in late trade, Biovie Inc (NASDAQ:BIVI) which lost 31.80% to settle at 5.49 and Redhill Biopharma Ltd (NASDAQ:RDHL) which was down 27.21% to 0.27 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1681 to 1404 and 137 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2138 rose and 1550 declined, while 269 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.93% to 19.06 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.19% or 3.50 to $1,811.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.31% or 1.06 to hit $80.16 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.23% or 1.07 to trade at $85.81 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.73% to 134.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 104.46.
