Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Technology and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.12% to hit a new 6-month low, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.48%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 9.29% or 3.02 points to trade at 35.54 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 0.80% or 1.33 points to end at 168.22 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 0.59% or 1.92 points to 329.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which lost 6.72% or 10.40 points to trade at 144.35 in late trade. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) declined 3.60% or 5.07 points to end at 135.69 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 3.02% or 8.14 points to 261.57.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:DXCM) which rose 10.11% to 89.29, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was up 9.29% to settle at 35.54 and Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) which gained 9.19% to close at 97.74.
The worst performers were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 14.65% to 82.09 in late trade, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) which lost 12.25% to settle at 9.96 and Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which was down 9.65% to 372.00 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Forbion European Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:FRBN) which rose 59.33% to 28.44, Apollomics Inc (NASDAQ:APLM) which was up 51.76% to settle at 0.86 and Spectaire Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SPEC) which gained 45.34% to close at 2.34.
The worst performers were Liberty Tripadvisor Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LTRPB) which was down 57.97% to 10.50 in late trade, reAlpha Tech Corp (NASDAQ:AIRE) which lost 53.57% to settle at 23.17 and Siyata Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:SYTA) which was down 47.93% to 0.67 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2078 to 828 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2440 fell and 1096 advanced, while 113 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.85% to 21.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.93% or 18.50 to $2,015.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.26% or 1.88 to hit $85.09 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.39% or 2.10 to trade at $90.03 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.50% to 149.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 106.39.
