Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.58% to hit a new 3-month low, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.17%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 3.29% or 0.70 points to trade at 21.96 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 2.13% or 3.02 points to end at 144.59 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) was up 1.42% or 2.25 points to 161.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which lost 3.69% or 6.15 points to trade at 160.68 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 3.06% or 1.07 points to end at 33.85 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 2.06% or 5.75 points to 273.06.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) which rose 3.94% to 36.64, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was up 3.84% to settle at 429.75 and Airbnb Inc (NASDAQ:ABNB) which gained 3.35% to close at 120.39.
The worst performers were FMC Corporation (NYSE:FMC) which was down 13.19% to 58.12 in late trade, Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:BBWI) which lost 4.95% to settle at 29.56 and The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which was down 4.89% to 33.68 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were INVO Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:INVO) which rose 292.59% to 2.12, LumiraDx Ltd (NASDAQ:LMDX) which was up 215.98% to settle at 0.28 and Akumin Inc (NASDAQ:AKU) which gained 144.86% to close at 0.36.
The worst performers were Apollomics Inc (NASDAQ:APLM) which was down 42.91% to 0.99 in late trade, Spectaire Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SPEC) which lost 39.44% to settle at 3.01 and Agrify Corp (NASDAQ:AGFY) which was down 38.84% to 1.48 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2036 to 867 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2422 fell and 1075 advanced, while 92 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.17% to 20.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.49% or 9.85 to $1,984.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.26% or 1.99 to hit $86.09 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.89% or 1.74 to trade at $90.42 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.70% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.10% to 149.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.54% at 105.41.
