Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.10%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which rose 0.79% or 2.15 points to trade at 273.26 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 0.74% or 2.67 points to end at 363.20 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 0.59% or 1.07 points to 182.89 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 3.00% or 0.65 points to trade at 21.00 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.19% or 0.85 points to end at 37.92 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 1.39% or 2.01 points to 142.40.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Extra Space Storage Inc (NYSE:EXR) which rose 10.57% to 118.53, Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) which was up 6.11% to settle at 229.58 and DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which gained 5.89% to close at 84.81.
The worst performers were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was down 19.04% to 9.40 in late trade, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which lost 7.94% to settle at 11.82 and Biogen Inc (NASDAQ:BIIB) which was down 5.67% to 231.69 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Peraso Inc (NASDAQ:PRSO) which rose 110.84% to 0.32, Gan Ltd (NASDAQ:GAN) which was up 82.78% to settle at 1.63 and Korro Bio Inc (NASDAQ:KRRO) which gained 68.16% to close at 41.40.
The worst performers were Durect Corporation (NASDAQ:DRRX) which was down 79.57% to 0.53 in late trade, FTC Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FTCI) which lost 64.45% to settle at 0.42 and Mobiv Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:MOBV) which was down 49.21% to 4.52 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1725 to 1173 and 84 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2180 fell and 1280 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.43% to 14.45 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.89% or 17.55 to $1,955.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.42% or 1.87 to hit $75.50 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.35% or 1.92 to trade at $79.69 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.43% to 150.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 105.37.
