Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Consumer Services and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.58%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 3.91% or 3.83 points to trade at 101.81 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 3.76% or 10.89 points to end at 300.80 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 3.53% or 1.18 points to 34.62 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 0.19% or 0.04 points to trade at 21.10 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 0.13% or 0.13 points to end at 102.69 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) gained 0.02% or 0.01 points to 51.57.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which rose 7.26% to 41.80, Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which was up 4.78% to settle at 389.80 and MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which gained 3.95% to close at 214.15.
The worst performers were ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) which was down 21.77% to 65.34 in late trade, Revvity Inc (NYSE:RVTY) which lost 16.12% to settle at 82.09 and Realty Income Corp (NYSE:O) which was down 5.69% to 46.21 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Miromatrix Medical Inc (NASDAQ:MIRO) which rose 225.74% to 3.29, Kaixin Auto Holdings (NASDAQ:KXIN) which was up 67.00% to settle at 1.67 and Eargo Inc (NASDAQ:EAR) which gained 54.17% to close at 2.59.
The worst performers were Blue Hat Interactive Entertainment (NASDAQ:BHAT) which was down 40.12% to 0.97 in late trade, Commscope Hlding (NASDAQ:COMM) which lost 38.84% to settle at 1.48 and Pop Culture Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:CPOP) which was down 35.91% to 1.41 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2020 to 917 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2212 rose and 1314 declined, while 103 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.15% to 19.75.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.36% or 7.20 to $2,005.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 3.52% or 3.01 to hit $82.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.95% or 2.63 to trade at $86.57 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.49% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.32% to 149.12.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 105.95.
