Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.87%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.88% or 1.32 points to trade at 47.08 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 2.69% or 7.00 points to end at 267.25 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 2.60% or 0.66 points to 26.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 0.20% or 0.10 points to trade at 49.70 in late trade. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 0.08% or 0.15 points to end at 194.68 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) gained 0.09% or 0.31 points to 348.97.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which rose 8.63% to 85.48, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was up 7.08% to settle at 19.21 and Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ:CTAS) which gained 6.55% to close at 589.95.
The worst performers were Paychex Inc (NASDAQ:PAYX) which was down 7.01% to 118.90 in late trade, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which lost 2.77% to settle at 15.07 and WestRock Co (NYSE:WRK) which was down 2.42% to 41.88 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Lottery.com Inc (NASDAQ:LTRY) which rose 195.97% to 3.67, Infrared Cameras Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MSAI) which was up 88.55% to settle at 4.94 and Mullen Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:MULN) which gained 78.13% to close at 14.25.
The worst performers were Nogin Inc (NASDAQ:NOGN) which was down 45.58% to 0.06 in late trade, Revelstone Capital Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:RCAC) which lost 41.72% to settle at 6.30 and Clene Inc. (NASDAQ:CLNN) which was down 38.84% to 0.32 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2334 to 565 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2520 rose and 924 declined, while 113 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.15% to 13.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.43% or 8.75 to $2,056.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.30% or 0.22 to hit $74.00 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.23 to trade at $79.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.62% to 1.10, while USD/JPY fell 0.92% to 142.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 101.43.
