Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Healthcare and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.10% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.18%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 1.46% or 2.58 points to trade at 179.23 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) added 1.10% or 2.97 points to end at 272.83 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.06% or 3.73 points to 356.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 1.54% or 0.34 points to trade at 21.77 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 1.23% or 1.05 points to end at 84.02 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 1.13% or 3.71 points to 323.91.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) which rose 6.54% to 124.73, Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) which was up 4.82% to settle at 595.19 and Dominion Energy Inc (NYSE:D) which gained 4.54% to close at 45.59.
The worst performers were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was down 7.78% to 12.69 in late trade, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which lost 7.04% to settle at 72.07 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was down 6.66% to 119.46 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were MSP Recovery Inc (NASDAQ:LIFW) which rose 252.19% to 9.65, Cardio Diagnostics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CDIO) which was up 81.62% to settle at 0.68 and Tenon Medical Inc (NASDAQ:TNON) which gained 57.48% to close at 2.00.
The worst performers were Novo Integrated Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NVOS) which was down 59.50% to 0.12 in late trade, Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust Inc (NASDAQ:WHLR) which lost 43.02% to settle at 0.29 and DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was down 37.43% to 3.43 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2052 to 842 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2194 fell and 1265 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.13% to 14.89 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.74% or 14.75 to $1,984.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.41% or 0.33 to hit $80.84 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.28 to trade at $85.17 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.47% to 150.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 105.11.
