Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.08%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.25%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which rose 10.54% or 16.43 points to trade at 172.31 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) added 3.00% or 6.73 points to end at 231.44 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 1.84% or 0.67 points to 37.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 6.41% or 1.93 points to trade at 28.16 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 4.44% or 8.34 points to end at 179.45 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) shed 1.74% or 3.35 points to 188.76.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which rose 10.99% to 177.88, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) which was up 10.54% to settle at 172.31 and L3Harris Technologies Inc (NYSE:LHX) which gained 7.92% to close at 212.10.
The worst performers were Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:HAS) which was down 8.11% to 58.61 in late trade, KLA Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) which lost 6.85% to settle at 399.37 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was down 6.41% to 28.16 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were BuzzFeed Inc (NASDAQ:BZFD) which rose 85.17% to 3.87, Applied UV Inc (NASDAQ:AUVI) which was up 52.88% to settle at 1.59 and Lucid Group Inc (NASDAQ:LCID) which gained 43.00% to close at 12.87.
The worst performers were Nemaura Medical Inc (NASDAQ:NMRD) which was down 42.31% to 1.65 in late trade, Jack Creek Investment Corp. (NASDAQ:BAER) which lost 33.79% to settle at 12.44 and Akerna Corp (NASDAQ:KERN) which was down 31.46% to 1.22 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1746 to 1298 and 122 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2138 rose and 1526 declined, while 176 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.17% to 18.51.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.09% or 1.80 to $1,928.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.91% or 1.55 to hit $79.46 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 1.03 to trade at $86.44 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.30% to 129.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 101.72.
