Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas Producers, Mining and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 4.45% or 6.45 points to trade at 151.25 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 4.28% or 11.10 points to end at 270.70 and Aviva PLC (LON:AV) was up 3.22% or 12.10 points to 387.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 3.78% or 129.00 points to trade at 3,286.00 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 3.65% or 37.00 points to end at 978.00 and BP PLC (LON:BP) shed 3.17% or 16.35 points to 499.45.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1251 to 470 and 401 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 5.75 to $1,835.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 4.76% or 4.25 to hit $84.98 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 4.72% or 4.29 to trade at $86.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.58% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 106.48.
