Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Beverage and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.53% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 4.23% or 61.50 points to trade at 1,514.00 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) added 3.64% or 240.00 points to end at 6,830.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 3.01% or 147.00 points to 5,032.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 18.97% or 421.90 points to trade at 1,802.60 in late trade. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) declined 4.05% or 200.00 points to end at 4,740.00 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) shed 1.97% or 36.50 points to 1,820.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 997 to 606 and 498 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.60% or 32.75 to $2,013.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.44% or 1.69 to hit $71.03 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.23% or 1.65 to trade at $75.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.47% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.01% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 104.11.
