Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Tobacco, Insurance and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which rose 3.92% or 62.00 points to trade at 1,642.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 3.76% or 15.90 points to end at 438.30 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 3.58% or 9.70 points to 280.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq), which lost 1.69% or 21.00 points to trade at 1,225.00 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 1.54% or 33.00 points to end at 2,108.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 1.42% or 7.40 points to 513.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 888 to 762 and 437 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.24% or 4.45 to $1,830.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.01% or 1.69 to hit $82.53 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.98% or 1.70 to trade at $84.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 106.22.
