Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 1.95% or 8.30 points to trade at 435.10 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 1.91% or 10.60 points to end at 564.60 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) was up 1.90% or 9.00 points to 481.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND), which lost 5.99% or 23.90 points to trade at 375.00 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 3.75% or 23.00 points to end at 590.40 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) shed 2.42% or 18.00 points to 726.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1054 to 741 and 479 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.89% or 17.20 to $1,958.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.29% or 0.90 to hit $70.57 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.31% or 0.99 to trade at $76.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.57% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 102.27.
