Miramar Resources Ltd (ASX:M2R) is growing its 100%-owned Bangemall Project in WA’s Gascoyne Region with the addition of Exploration Licence E52/4301, adjacent to the high-priority Mount Vernon nickel-copper-platinum group elements (PGE) project.
The explorer has a substantial landholding in the Bangemall region and believes there is potential for nickel, copper and PGE mineralisation related to the Kulkatharra Dolerite sills, part of the Warakurna Large Igenous Province.
Named the Trouble Bore Project, E52/4301 contains a number of these sills and potential feeder dykes, which have never been effectively explored for nickel, copper and PGEs.
Location of Trouble Bore in relation to Mount Vernon.
Limited work
Previous exploration at Trouble Bore has been limited and sporadic and focused mainly on sediment-hosted copper, lead and zinc during the 1990s and early 2000s and channel iron deposits (CID) between 2012 and 2014.
Mining giant Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) drilled three reverse circulation (RC) holes in an area within Trouble Bore but failed to intersect CID mineralisation and subsequently surrendered the tenements.
However, an electromagnetic survey it conducted in 2013 highlighted anomalies coincident with the dolerite sills as well as feeder dykes linking the sills, although there has been minimal surface geochemical data reported across the project.
Showing proof
Miramar’s aim for Bangemall in 2024 is to show “proof of concept” by identifying nickel-copper-PGE sulphide mineralisation, either in outcrop or through drilling.
“If we are successful at Mount Vernon, it opens up the entire Bangemall region as a new nickel province, one in which we have built a commanding land position,” Miramar executive chairman Allan Kelly said.
The company plans to complete fixed loop electromagnetic (FLEM) surveys over selected high-priority VTEM anomalies at Mount Vernon, followed by modelling and RC drill testing as well as field sampling of SkyTEM anomalies at Trouble Bore.
At the same time, it aims to get tenements under application granted while also identifying other prospective areas to acquire.
