Mexico shares higher at close of trade; IPC up 0.12%

Investing.com – Mexico equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms Services, Consumer Staples and Consumer Goods & Services sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Mexico, the IPC rose 0.12%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the IPC were Gruma SAB de CV (MX:GRUMAB), which rose 2.00% or 5.090 points to trade at 259.330 at the close. Grupo Televisa SA (MX:TLVACPO) added 1.33% or 1.140 points to end at 86.550 and Fomento Economico Mexicano UBD (MX:FMSAUBD) was up 0.84% or 1.290 points to 155.430 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Alpek, S.A.B. De C.V. (MX:ALPEKA), which lost 3.07% or 0.780 points to trade at 24.610 in late trade. Grupo LALA SA de CV (MX:LALAB) declined 2.10% or 0.64 points to end at 29.86 and Grupo Carso, S.A.B. De C.V. (MX:GCARSOA1) shed 1.89% or 1.510 points to 78.300.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 164 to 108 and 11 ended unchanged on the Mexico Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.06% or 0.65 to $1132.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.46% or 0.78 to hit $52.52 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $54.53 a barrel.

USD/MXN was up 0.03% to 20.5653, while EUR/MXN rose 0.09% to 21.4461.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 103.04.
