Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Textile and Rubber sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 22.59% or 41.5 points to trade at 225.2 at the close. Rakuten Inc (T:4755) added 9.39% or 97.0 points to end at 1129.5 and Toray Industries, Inc. (T:3402) was up 3.53% or 34.8 points to 1020.2 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (T:2802), which lost 2.69% or 62.0 points to trade at 2239.0 in late trade. Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (T:2502) declined 2.20% or 90.0 points to end at 4009.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) shed 2.14% or 10.0 points to 457.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1532 to 1416 and 390 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.79% to 17.08 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.35% or 0.19 to $54.52 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.44% or 0.25 to hit $56.91 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.31% or 3.85 to trade at $1235.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 113.53, while EUR/JPY fell 0.25% to 119.48.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 101.50.
