Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Food, Fishery and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which rose 5.48% or 28.00 points to trade at 539.00 at the close. Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) added 5.35% or 132.00 points to end at 2,599.00 and Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (TYO:8303) was up 5.06% or 105.00 points to 2,180.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503), which lost 5.28% or 64.00 points to trade at 1,148.00 in late trade. Unitika, Ltd. (TYO:3103) declined 5.03% or 15.00 points to end at 283.00 and Maruha Nichiro Corp (TYO:1333) shed 4.47% or 110.00 points to 2,350.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1860 to 1711 and 205 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.19% to 26.33 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 3.61% or 2.87 to $82.36 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 3.55% or 3.02 to hit $88.16 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.04% or 0.60 to trade at $1,671.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.12% to 144.93, while EUR/JPY rose 0.31% to 142.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 111.99.
