Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 5.93% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 5.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 5.96% or 140.40 points to trade at 2,496.30 at the close. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) added 3.33% or 172.10 points to end at 5,339.90 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 3.16% or 163.30 points to 5,323.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which lost 21.15% or 335.00 points to trade at 1,248.95 in late trade. Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) declined 19.31% or 704.00 points to end at 2,941.25 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) shed 16.83% or 47.80 points to 236.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 5.74% to 2,490.00, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was up 3.29% to settle at 2,432.00 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 0.61% to close at 3,730.00.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 14.79% to 334.00 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 13.67% to settle at 781.95 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 12.34% to 3,416.55 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2120 to 115 and 20 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 3227 fell and 465 advanced, while 93 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 27.75% to 26.75 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.64% or 15.25 to $2,354.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.10% or 1.56 to hit $72.66 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.84% or 1.44 to trade at $76.92 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.59% to 83.59, while EUR/INR rose 0.25% to 90.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 104.25.
