Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, IT and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.83% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 1.23% or 3.75 points to trade at 309.85 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 1.04% or 1.25 points to end at 121.25 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 0.83% or 3.80 points to 460.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which lost 2.61% or 129.55 points to trade at 4,840.00 in late trade. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) declined 2.60% or 36.65 points to end at 1,372.00 and Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) shed 2.06% or 47.65 points to 2,261.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 1.13% to 121.35, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 0.60% to settle at 556.35 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 0.48% to close at 1,571.10.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.76% to 1,370.10 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.90% to settle at 921.85 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.82% to 232.15 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1452 to 614 and 40 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2356 fell and 1201 advanced, while 103 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.74% to 11.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.16% or 3.15 to $1,982.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.23% or 0.19 to hit $83.55 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.09 to trade at $87.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.20% to 83.17, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 87.95.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 106.27.
