Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.65%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 2.61% or 63.80 points to trade at 2,511.20 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 2.35% or 8.25 points to end at 359.65 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 0.87% or 3.25 points to 378.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS), which lost 4.33% or 56.35 points to trade at 1,245.40 in late trade. Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) declined 3.82% or 71.60 points to end at 1,804.95 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) shed 3.17% or 181.55 points to 5,550.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 2.45% to 2,508.50, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 0.80% to settle at 378.75 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 0.54% to close at 1,700.40.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 4.25% to 1,245.80 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 3.18% to settle at 5,550.60 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.46% to 367.20 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1469 to 489 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2391 fell and 1112 advanced, while 125 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 8.40% to 16.01.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.41% or 8.10 to $1,981.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.88% or 1.26 to hit $65.67 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 1.45 to trade at $71.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 82.59, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 88.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 103.24.
