Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Power and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.47%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 2.61% or 28.40 points to trade at 1,117.00 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 2.19% or 7.65 points to end at 356.90 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 0.64% or 2.95 points to 462.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 3.43% or 78.80 points to trade at 2,215.85 in late trade. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) declined 2.51% or 34.35 points to end at 1,333.50 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) shed 2.31% or 7.25 points to 307.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.67% to 1,117.80, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was up 0.47% to settle at 1,575.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 0.35% to close at 2,296.65.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 2.04% to 2,935.35 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 1.81% to settle at 116.60 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.64% to 23,841.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1217 to 849 and 55 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1915 fell and 1609 advanced, while 130 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.88% to 12.05 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.14% or 2.80 to $1,991.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.15% or 0.93 to hit $81.95 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.08% or 0.92 to trade at $85.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 83.32, while EUR/INR fell 0.17% to 87.92.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 106.68.
