Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.47% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 3.23% or 77.05 points to trade at 2,464.30 at the close. Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) added 3.03% or 676.75 points to end at 22,992.00 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 1.65% or 55.35 points to 3,406.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which lost 4.82% or 50.20 points to trade at 990.85 in late trade. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 2.94% or 17.75 points to end at 585.20 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) shed 2.38% or 5.75 points to 235.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 2.91% to 22,988.65, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 1.52% to settle at 1,530.80 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 1.51% to close at 2,507.45.
The worst performers were Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 4.38% to 994.40 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.82% to settle at 585.95 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.55% to 235.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1461 to 572 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2281 fell and 1267 advanced, while 112 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.12% to 11.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.22% or 4.05 to $1,837.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.76% or 1.57 to hit $87.66 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.75% or 1.59 to trade at $89.33 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 83.24, while EUR/INR rose 0.37% to 87.45.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 106.52.
