Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Banking and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.32% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK), which rose 5.34% or 25.70 points to trade at 506.75 at the close. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) added 2.24% or 15.00 points to end at 684.40 and Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML) was up 1.67% or 8.35 points to 508.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI), which lost 4.26% or 13.150 points to trade at 295.600 in late trade. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 3.86% or 14.50 points to end at 360.85 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) shed 1.64% or 1.40 points to 83.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 4.99% to 504.60, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 1.61% to settle at 991.15 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 1.36% to close at 1088.25.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 3.38% to 362.95 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 1.68% to settle at 2464.30 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 0.94% to 263.35 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 836 to 643 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1507 rose and 1246 declined, while 174 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.62% to 13.5250.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.78% or 9.65 to $1229.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.36% or 0.73 to hit $54.51 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.73 to trade at $56.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 66.995, while EUR/INR fell 0.61% to 70.5821.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 101.51.
