India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.11%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Consumer Durables and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.11%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.35%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 6.08% or 17.40 points to trade at 303.60 at the close. Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) added 2.37% or 9.00 points to end at 387.95 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 1.27% or 6.50 points to 520.35 in late trade.

Biggest losers included State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which lost 4.45% or 13.70 points to trade at 294.30 in late trade. Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) declined 3.96% or 52.25 points to end at 1265.95 and Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) shed 3.38% or 20.15 points to 575.15.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 6.21% to 303.65, Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was up 1.61% to settle at 1751.80 and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which gained 1.36% to close at 353.95.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 4.46% to 294.40 in late trade, Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which lost 3.95% to settle at 1262.90 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 2.48% to 391.15 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1135 to 436 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1824 fell and 861 advanced, while 153 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.88% to 11.2025.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.21% or 2.59 to $1256.19 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.95% or 0.48 to hit $51.15 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.91% or 0.49 to trade at $54.10 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.13% to 64.541, while EUR/INR rose 0.19% to 72.4973.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 96.96.
