Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Banking and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.70%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 3.82% or 17.75 points to trade at 483.00 at the close. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 3.11% or 68.45 points to end at 2,269.70 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 2.87% or 159.30 points to 5,710.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which lost 1.94% or 48.60 points to trade at 2,462.60 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 1.91% or 4.35 points to end at 223.15 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) shed 1.50% or 64.85 points to 4,267.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 3.11% to 2,270.05, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 2.94% to settle at 5,714.00 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which gained 2.15% to close at 2,514.00.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.00% to 222.95 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.88% to settle at 2,463.20 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.19% to 1,095.80 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1131 to 779 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1915 rose and 1480 declined, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.78% to 15.08.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.63% or 12.40 to $1,970.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.18% or 0.80 to hit $68.62 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.77 to trade at $74.56 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.12% to 82.63, while EUR/INR rose 0.51% to 88.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 102.86.
