Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Power, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.40%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 2.17% or 7.55 points to trade at 354.80 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 2.07% or 4.20 points to end at 207.25 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 1.76% or 5.50 points to 317.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 1.53% or 10.20 points to trade at 656.00 in late trade. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 1.09% or 33.90 points to end at 3,068.00 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) shed 0.89% or 5.60 points to 625.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 1.97% to 207.05, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 1.22% to settle at 1,771.50 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 1.17% to close at 1,197.40.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.21% to 3,066.00 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 0.84% to settle at 1,434.70 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.50% to 3,506.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1253 to 793 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2089 rose and 1475 declined, while 131 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.39% to 10.69.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.09% or 1.65 to $1,935.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $85.35 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.21 to trade at $89.86 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 83.24, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 87.80.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 106.18.
