India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.27%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Auto and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.27% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.34%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 5.02% or 16.30 points to trade at 340.75 at the close. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) added 3.44% or 89.95 points to end at 2,707.55 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 2.78% or 75.35 points to 2,783.50 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 2.16% or 9.50 points to trade at 431.15 in late trade. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 1.45% or 10.55 points to end at 715.65 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) shed 1.41% or 67.60 points to 4,721.85.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 3.48% to 2,708.05, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was up 1.41% to settle at 19,802.35 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.38% to close at 3,150.00.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.22% to 104.90 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.10% to settle at 837.45 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 1.08% to 1,599.75 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1121 to 778 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2008 rose and 1473 declined, while 177 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.74% to 13.56.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.50% or 8.75 to $1,762.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.07% or 2.34 to hit $73.94 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.12% or 2.61 to trade at $81.10 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.13% to 81.58, while EUR/INR rose 0.67% to 85.48.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 105.39.
