Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Software and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 1.83% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index declined 1.59%, and the TecDAX index fell 2.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 1.32% or 0.135 points to trade at 10.395 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) added 0.54% or 0.085 points to end at 15.825 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) was down 0.30% or 0.260 points to 85.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which lost 3.65% or 0.695 points to trade at 18.355 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) declined 3.23% or 0.580 points to end at 17.385 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) shed 3.22% or 3.060 points to 92.020.
The top performers on the MDAX were Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which rose 1.62% to 69.030, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was up 0.84% to settle at 10.79 and STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which gained 0.21% to close at 61.130.
The worst performers were Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was down 4.83% to 63.430 in late trade, Deutsche Euroshop AG (DE:DEQGn) which lost 4.40% to settle at 34.290 and Osram Licht AG (F:OSRn) which was down 3.62% to 68.500 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which rose 0.19% to 4.292, Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was down 0.50% to settle at 5.999 and Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which lost 0.81% to close at 91.630.
The worst performers were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 4.45% to 8.759 in late trade, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which lost 4.07% to settle at 13.675 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 3.54% to 26.320 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 552 to 156 and 15 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 21.36% to 16.98 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.37% or 4.59 to $1244.51 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.60% or 0.27 to hit $45.01 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.19 to trade at $47.73 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.37% to 1.1420, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.8797.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 95.48.
