Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Paramount Resources Ltd . (TSX:POU), which rose 4.50% or 1.39 points to trade at 32.30 at the close. Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) added 3.35% or 0.39 points to end at 12.02 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) was up 2.98% or 0.23 points to 7.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which lost 10.00% or 1.24 points to trade at 11.16 in late trade. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) declined 7.30% or 7.66 points to end at 97.24 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) shed 5.81% or 3.05 points to 49.44.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 718 to 240 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.21% to 16.37 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.37% or 26.55 to $1,962.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.00% or 1.71 to hit $87.15 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.41 to trade at $91.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.48% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 106.36.
