Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, REITs and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which rose 10.61% or 0.35 points to trade at 3.65 at the close. Parkland Fuel Corporation (TSX:PKI) added 9.72% or 2.84 points to end at 32.05 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) was up 8.35% or 0.66 points to 8.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV), which lost 6.97% or 0.59 points to trade at 7.88 in late trade. Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) declined 4.44% or 0.37 points to end at 7.96 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 4.43% or 0.12 points to 2.59.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 607 to 390 and 88 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.25% to 17.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.66% or 32.20 to $1,973.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.36% or 0.25 to hit $69.92 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $75.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.02% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.69% at 102.18.
