Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the REITs, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd (TSX:TVE), which rose 5.05% or 0.20 points to trade at 4.16 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 4.47% or 0.27 points to end at 6.31 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) was up 3.88% or 0.40 points to 10.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which lost 12.72% or 1.42 points to trade at 9.74 in late trade. Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u) declined 5.89% or 1.04 points to end at 16.61 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) shed 5.37% or 0.57 points to 10.04.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 599 to 344 and 129 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.57% to 16.79 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.88% or 17.40 to $1,985.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.46% or 2.15 to hit $89.42 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.07% or 1.89 to trade at $93.39 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.45% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 106.04.
