Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which rose 10.32% or 1.12 points to trade at 11.97 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) added 3.37% or 0.09 points to end at 2.76 and BCE Inc (TSX:BCE) was up 3.16% or 1.65 points to 53.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD), which lost 6.76% or 1.88 points to trade at 25.94 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 5.34% or 1.86 points to end at 32.95 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) shed 4.62% or 4.77 points to 98.39.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 487 to 466 and 94 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 10.99% to 11.92 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.22% or 4.50 to $2,067.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.47% or 1.05 to hit $70.60 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.26% or 0.97 to trade at $76.07 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.66% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.35% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.90% at 101.94.
